Kenneth "Ken" F. Carr, Sr., 87, of Charles City, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

A graveside service for Kenneth Carr will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City with Pastor Matthew Lucio from the Charles City Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating.

A visitation will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21.

Kenneth Floyd Carr, the son of Lloyd L. and Gladys M. (Gayther) Carr, was born July 4th, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended school in Hibbing, Minnesota; Charles City, Iowa; Cincinnati, Ohio; New London, Connecticut; Aurora, Illinois; and the Army School of Engineers in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Ken was a Korean veteran and spent two years in Panama in the Army from 1951 to 1953. There he became an amateur radio operator (KZ5KC) and later (W0KUS); a passion he continued for the rest of his life. He belonged to the North Iowa Radio Club and even had an article he wrote published in QST magazine.

In 1950 Ken married Elaine (Waid) Carr at the Little Brown Church. To this union were born two sons: Kenneth Jr. and Dennis. Elaine passed away in 1985. Ken married Arlene (Bill) Diercks in June of 1987 and they made their home in Charles City. From 1953 until 1966 he ran a service station on South Main Street in Charles City. Later, he was employed by Oliver (White), traveling as a service representative, until they closed the construction equipment division in 1976. After that Ken worked as a service manager at Chrysler Village and taught a class at NIACC for one year. Following that, he worked for the Champion Motor Grader Company from 1980 until his retirement in 1991.

Living family members include his wife: Arlene Carr of Charles City; sons: Kenneth (Sherry) Carr Jr. of Clear Lake, and Dennis W. (Gloria) Carr of Charles City; daughter: Cathy (Pat) Paulus of Dalton, Alabama; sister: Patricia (Dale) Midland of Maryville, MO; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren (3 more on the way); and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine Carr in 1985; brother, Vernon (Catherine) L. Carr; and a son, Eugene "Gene" Diercks.
