DEATH NOTICE--

Robert Wood

RUDD, IOWA — Robert Wood, 71, of Rudd, Iowa, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at Charles City, Iowa.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 17, at Hauser Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the donor’s charity of choice.

Hauser Funeral Home, in Charles City, is in charge of local arrangements.

Robert "Bob" Wood

Birth: 06/06/1945
Death: 06/13/2016

Service: A celebration of the life of Robert Wood will be held at Hauser Funeral Home on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Robert Wood, 71, of Rudd, Iowa passed away Monday June 13, 2016 at Charles City, Iowa.

Robert Ernest Wood, the son of Ernest O. and Helene (McDowell) Wood, was born on June 6, 1945.

Bob graduated from Rudd, Rockford, Marble Rock and Mason City Junior College. He loved sports and held the long jump record at RRMR until his son Tony broke his record. He played basketball at MCJC and was recruited by the Philadelphia Phillies as a pitcher. He always strived to become the club champion at the Rockford Country Club, a feat he never achieved even though both of his sons did.

Bob was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved farming, which was both his work and his hobby. He was a steward of the land and every acre he acquired he cleared or diverted and tiled. Bob was a perfectionist and spent much time improving what he acquired. He was a deal maker and like his father, he always wanted to "do just one more deal".

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan; his children: Phil (Michelle) Wood of Omaha, Nebraska, Laura Wood (Mike Gerhard) of Clear Lake, and Tony (Kelly) Wood of Rudd; his grandchildren: Brandon (Casey) Wood, Jade and Clay Schurtz, Madison Wood, and Madeline and Ethan Wood; one great-grandchild, Hadasah Wood of Rudd; his sister, Cynthia Becher, and her son Travis of Fort Dodge; his brother Craig (Dorothy) Wood of Rudd; his sisters-in-law, Linda Staudt, Sandy (Roger) Holden, and Mary Ann (Mike) Schweizer and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his niece Tiffany Becher and her father Larry; his parents-in-law Gene and Mary Crowell; and brothers-in-law Vince Staudt and Jack Curley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to the donor's charity of choice.
