Clyde Elma Walker, the son of Archie and Linnie (Baker) Walker, was born February 28, 1931 in rural Howard County, Iowa near Elma. He attended school in Elma through 8th grade receiving his GED at a later date. Clyde held various jobs when he was finished with school until beginning work at the Oliver Plant in Charles City in 1949. There was a brief interruption in his assembly work when Clyde proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to work at Oliver until 1982. Clyde and his wife, Berniece, drove motor homes for Winnebago from 1982-1986. The couple also owned and operated Tardy Turtle Drive-In in Riceville from 1982-1984 and managed the East Gate Apartments from 1986-1990 when Clyde decided it was time to retire.

Clyde was united in marriage to Jospehine "Patsy" Loftus in 1955 and this union was blessed with four children: Pamela, Russell, Katherine and Gail. Gail was only one month 12 hours old when Josephine passed away in 1961.

Clyde then married Veronica "Sue" Durnan in August 1962 and this union was blessed with the adoption by Clyde of Pat and the births of Denise, Mark and Josephine. The couple later divorced. Clyde was then united to his wife of 43 years, Berniece Starry, in 1973 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and this union added two step-children to Clyde's life, Marge and Roger.

Clyde was a member of First Congregational Church in Charles City. He enjoyed country dancing in Spillville, going to drive-ins, wood carving and camping in Decorah (trail walking while at the campground). He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Berniece of Charles City; eight children: Pamela (Doug) Auchstetter of Rockford, Russell (Rose) Walker of Mason City, Katherine Cook of Charles City, Gail (Darwin) DeVries of Charles City, Pat (Denise) Walker of Postville, Denise Leuchentenmacher of Fredricksburg, Mark Walker (special friend Sabrina) of Postville and Josephine (Ethan) Bredlow of Clear Lake; two step-children: Marge (Larry) Leibold of Humboldt and Roger (Deb) Mihan of Mason City; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Arlene) Walker of Stewartville, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
