Madonna Mohring, 81, of Charles City passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Nelson will officiate. Burial will take place at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City. Following the burial will be a time for fellowship and lunch at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Madonna Marguerite (Springer) Mohring, the daughter of Amos and Helen (Marovets) Springer, was born on February 10, 1934 in Chickasaw County. She graduated from Nashua High School. Madonna and Ervin Mohring were united in marriage on September 5, 1953 in Tawilla, Utah. She was employed at Peerless Photo Company and a cafeteria manager at the Charles City High School for 25 years. When Madonna wasn't working she was alongside her husband farming. Madonna was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, and a Charter member of the Osage Sams Camp group.

Madonna was an outgoing, opinionated woman who loved to visit with others. She enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking for family gatherings, and baking. Her family especially enjoyed her potato salad, homemade bread, and pecan rolls. Madonna and Ervin would travel to Texas every winter for 22 years. Her greatest joys were her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, Ervin Mohring of Charles City; daughter, Linda (Terry) Stewart of Charles City; two grandchildren: Holly (Ryan) Wright, and Amanda (Melissa Boysen) Stewart; two great grandchildren: Hunter and Tatiana Wright; one sister, Beverly (David) Bray of Des Moines; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Gordon Springer; and four sisters: Doris Martin, Darlene Martens, Lorraine Bigelow, and Dorothy Mohring.
