Obituary for Donna M Sehmann
Donna M. (Sharp) Sehmann, 82, formerly of Cresco, Iowa passed away Friday December 4, 2015 in Eagan, Minnesota. There will be no formal services at this time but a memorial service will be held sometime in the spring.
Donna was born in Nora Springs, Iowa, to F.E. and Verna (Tatum) Sharp. After graduating from Clarion High School she attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI), receiving her degree in music in 1955.
On March 20, 1955 she married Phillip C. Sehmann. Phil and Donna taught first in Dumont, Iowa, and then for many years in the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District. Donna was an elementary music teacher for over 30 years and church organist for nearly 40 years. She loved camping in the family motor home, traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of music, including performing with the Cresco Community Theater and the Elm Street Singers, as well as attending concerts and musicals. Donna was a member of the Cresco United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and PEO.
Donna is survived by her three children: Debra (Paul) Skup of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Mick (Karin Harfst) Sehmann of Richmond, Kentucky, and Lisa (Paul) Thelemann of Eagan, Minnesota; two sisters, Lora (Floyd) Kemp of Oberlin, Ohio and Bonny (Roy) Shay of Saguache, Colorado; three grandchildren, Elena Thelemann of Madrid, Spain, Andrew (Ashley Wilson) Sehmann of Athens, Georgia, and Jenna Sehmann of Richmond, Kentucky, as well as her shih tzu, Pippin.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and husband Phil. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to be directed to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa or the Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools Music Department.
