Russell Schroeder, Jr., 68, of Osage, formerly of Charles City, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City will officiate.

A gathering of family and friends will take place an hour prior to the Celebration of Life at Our Savior's church in Osage on Thursday.

Russell Homer Schroeder, Jr., the son of Russell, Sr. and Viola (Debban) Schroeder, was born on May 14, 1947 in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1965.

Russell was united in marriage to Vicky Gray on October 19, 1968 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1970 and from the University of South Dakota School Of Law in 1973 with his Juris Doctorate. Russell was an instructor at NIACC teaching business and criminal law in the early years of his career. He practiced law in Charles City up until his death.

Russell was a member of the Elks, and Floyd and Mitchell County Bar Associations and the Iowa Bar Association. He loved Dodger baseball, Iowa wrestling, pheasant hunting, and fishing. Russell coached his children and grandchildren in little league. He had a sense of humor and integrity with everything he did. His greatest joys were his family and being able to help others through his love of his work.

Living family members include his wife, Vicky Schroeder of Osage; two children: DeDra (Jeff Smith) Schroeder of Osage, and Josh (Jubilee) Schroeder of Woodbury, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Sam McCarty, Niklas Smith, Katerina Smith, Tyler Schroeder, and Maya Schroeder; a sister, Virginia Schroeder of Charles City; two nephews: Rod (Diana) Starkey, and Devon (Evelyn) Schroeder; a niece, Tamara (Roger) Sutton; and an honorary daughter, Kristie Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gary Schroeder.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa and/or given to the family who will direct a scholarship in his name.
