James Barr – October 26, 1854 – February 10, 1934

James Barr, son of John and Margaret Barr, was born October 26, 1854, and died February 10, 1934, at the age of 79 years, three months and sixteen days.

Mr. Barr was born in Melugin Grove, Lee County, Illinois, and grew to manhood in that community.

In 1878 he was united in marriage to Adell Neel. They resided in that community for four years. During these years, two daughters, Maud and Myrtle, were born. After moving to Iowa in 1882, four sons, Harley, Clarence, Guy and Claude were born. Harley, the eldest son, died in infancy and Myrtle passed away in 1916.

Mr. and Mrs. Barr lived on farms south and west of Marble Rock for 25 years, later moving to Marble Rock, Iowa. For some time Mr. Barr's health had been failing. Recently he was attacked by pneumonia, which caused his decease. If Mr. Barr had lived until February 24th, he and Mrs. Barr would have been married 56 years.

Mr. Barr was esteemed by his friends and neighbors as a good man. Not only does he leave his wife and children to mourn his departure, but also a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, February 13, at two o'clock. Songs were sung by Mayne Spaulding, accompanied by Mrs. S. W. McNinch. The service was conducted by the Rev. Frederick Thiel, minister of the local Methodist Episcopal Church. The body was interred in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, Iowa.
