Romanus "Main" Mayer, 90, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Romanus Mayer will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be held at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday.

Romanus Herbert Mayer, the son of Raymond and Clara (Hemann) Mayer, was born April 5, 1925, in Stacyville, Iowa, at his parent's home. He attended school through 8th grade and began helping his father on the family farm. Romanus joined the Army, serving his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1950. He was united in marriage to Alice Patzer on July 7, 1953, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Charles City and Romanus worked at White Farm as a drill press operator until they closed their doors.

Romanus was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (Honorary Life Member-3rd Degree Knight) and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, helping his family and others with "handyman" duties and being outdoors. Romanus loved spending as much time as he was able with his family and sharing life's experiences with all of them.

Living family members include his wife of 62 years, Alice of Charles City; daughter, Cindy Caldwell of Charles City; son, Jeffery (Camie) Mayer of Golden Valley, Minnesota; four grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Thomas, Melissa (Ian) Pitzenberger, Rebecca Caldwell and Isabelle Mayer; three great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Nikolas and Eliyah; three brothers: Allan Mayer of Adams, Minnesota, Darrell (Lorene) Mayer of Lockport, New York and Elmer Mayer of Metamora, Illinois; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Clara Mayer, and his brother, Clarence Mayer.
