David J. Eimers - Greene

Funeral services for David Joe Eimers, 59, of Greene will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2015, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Virginia Anderson-Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene.

David Joe Eimers was born on August 9, 1955, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Darlyn (Schommer) Eimers and died Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Dave received his education in public school graduating from Greene High School in 1973. Dave participated in high school baseball, basketball, football and track, excelling as a pitcher and quarterback. He attended NIACC on football and baseball scholarships before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa. After college, he continued to play slow pitch softball and basketball for many years. Dave served as a volunteer basketball coach for Greene Summer Rec.

Dave was a basketball referee and self-employed carpenter whose specialty was custom cabinetry. Over the years he spent his spare time helping his family and friends with their construction projects. He used his carpentry skills to make the district ranking board in the Greene High School Gym. Dave was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served on the Greene School Board.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, and was an avid Yankee and Jets fan. Dave loved Brittany Spaniels especially his faithful canine companion “Pepper”. Dave was a fun guy with a good sense of humor.

Living family members include his children: Heidi (Ryan) Streets, Monmouth, Iowa; Dana Eimers, Waukee, Iowa; Michelle Eimers (Brock Gladwin), Hiawatha, Iowa; one grandchild; father: Jerry Eimers, Dike, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Dan (Carol) Eimers, Calif.; Mardy (Lisa) Eimers, Missouri; Jeff (Colleen) Eimers, WI; Wendell (April) Eimers, Peosta, Iowa; Jennifer (Kevin) Cartee, Peosta, Iowa; eight nieces; seven nephews; one sister-in-law: Janet Eimers, Cedar Falls, Iowa; canine companion, Pepper.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Darlyn Eimers; and one brother, Larry Eimers.
