Emil August Willert – September 17, 1885 – January 23, 1926

Emil August Willert, eldest son of Henry and Dora Willert, was born in Ulster Township, Floyd County, on September 17, 1885, and in early infancy was baptized in obedience to the Savior’s command. He attended the public school and alter partook of the special religious instruction preparatory to confirmation and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church by Rev. l. Westenberger.

On September 30, in the year 1908, he married Martha Schmolke. They made their home on a farm in Ulster Township several miles east of Rockford. Two children came to gladden their lives, Clara and Earl.

Mr. Willert enjoyed the respect and esteem of his neighbors and acquaintances. At the time of his death he held the office of township Trustee. Honesty and uprightness characterized his dealing with his fellowmen, and those that were permitted to know him better can testify to his willingness in giving assistance. It was especially during the last year that the traits of his character shone forth, when his faith in god, his calm submission to the heavenly Father’s will, and his cheerful hope of a better life helped him bear the trials and disappointment of a malady for which there was no cure.

He departed this life on Saturday Morning, January 23, a little after 10 o’clock, aged 40 years, 4 months and 5 days.

He is mourned by his faithful companion, their two children, Clara and Earl, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Willert, and by four brothers and one sister, Henry, Alfred, Edward, Dora and Walter. One brother, Carl, precede him in death on October 24, 1938.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00o’clock at Rockford, the service being held at the M. E. Church, Rev. F. H. Voelker, pastor of the Lutheran Church at Greene, in charge.
