Service: Thursday, March 26, 2015, Hauser Funeral Home, 5 to 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m.

Mildred Hess, 87, of Charles City, died Friday, March 20, 2015 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015 where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Jane Keel from Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City will officiate. A private family graveside service will take place Friday, March 27, 2015 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Mildred Harriett Hess, the daughter of Edward James and Elsie Fay (White) Banks, was born April 18, 1927 in Niles Township, Iowa on the family farm. She received her education in country schools. When Mildred was 16 years old she began working at the Waller Printing Company in Charles City and continued her employment for nearly 20 years. Mildred also worked at Marvin Windows in Warroad, Minnesota for a few years before becoming a CNA at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren, Minnesota where she worked until her retirement in 1994. Mildred moved back to Charles City in May of 2012.

Mildred was married to Jesse Delap and this union was blessed with a daughter, Jeanne. She was married to James Swanson and this union was blessed with a second daughter, Janet. Mildred was also married to Eugene Harriman and this union was blessed with a third daughter, Debra. Mildred married George Hess on June 2, 1993. The couple loved to travel together, go to garage sales, attend auctions and stop by many antique shops along their travels. Mildred also enjoyed gardening, playing cards (especially 500), playing Yahtzee and working crossword puzzles.

Living family members include her three daughters: Jeanne (Stephen) Martin of Charles City, Janet (Allan) Lassen of Council Bluffs and Deb (Don) Bohlman of Charles City; seven grandchildren: Steve Martin, Jr. (special friend Jill Connell), Sherri Martin (special friend Bret Moore), Angie (Danny) Reams, Shaun Martin, Travis Brosdahl (special friend Kelly Martinson), Trista (Jason) Stangel and Garrett Gerholdt; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Krumrey of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Hess in December of 2011; four brothers: Bill, Arlan, Dale and Wes Banks; and her sister, Gladys Corrier.
