NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Rosie M. Jacobsen, 95, of Nora Springs, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, Iowa.

A visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Rock Grove Cemetery following the service.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs. Burial will be in the Rock Grove Cemetery following the service.

Rosie Marie Paulsen Jacobsen was born April 9, 1919, in Glen Flora, Wisconsin. She was the oldest child of Christian and Bessie (Turner) Paulsen. She attended country school there. When she was eight-years-old, her family moved to Rudd, Iowa. There she was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on July 7, 1928. She graduated high school from Rudd, Iowa, in May 1937. Rosie worked for many people as a maid and hired hand.

On November 17, 1941, she was married to Harley Jacobsen in Nora Springs, Iowa, and from this union three children were born.

After World War II, Rosie and her husband bought a farm in Nora Springs, where she helped with crops, gardened and canned. In 1965 they moved to Canoga Park, California, and managed a motel, what a colorful life.

In 1966, they moved back to the farm and celebrated 25 years with family, friends and their new grandchildren. Rosie stayed working as a cook for the Nora Springs School for 15 years.

They sold the farm and moved to Osage, Iowa and lived there for 19 years. She moved back to Nora Springs, Iowa.

Rosie enjoyed baking angel food cakes for family and friends, horseback riding, embroidering, playing cards, trying out new recipes, camping, and fishing.

Through the years, Rosie was a Grey Lady, Cub Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, member of Saint Luke Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Rock Falls Card Group, Red Hatter, interfaith council, and friendship club.

She loved her family and grandchildren, and participated in almost all of their events. She also loved her flowers and birds and doing what she could for others.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Raymond (Jolene) Jacobsen, Lorraine (James) Richardson, and Brent (Linda Thomas) Jacobsen; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Bessie (Turner) Paulsen, her husband, Harley of 60 years, a brother, Albert Paulsen, sister Kathryn Piryn, one grandson, Chris Field, a great-granddaughter, Santana Field.
