Service Date: Saturday January 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., Trinity United Methodist ChurchMaxine Riden, 89, of Charles City, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Maxine Riden will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Audrey Maxine (Marah) Riden was born to Theodore and Velma (Van Hooser) Marah on August 4, 1925 in Wright County, Missouri. At the age of one, the family moved to Iowa. She graduated in 1943 from Nora Springs High School. Maxine loved playing basketball and played all through high school. She also enjoyed being in the school plays and band.
On November 11, 1945, Maxine was united in marriage to Harvey Riden at Central Methodist Church by Rev. Dewight James. To this union four children were born. They farmed until moving to town in 1975. Maxine also worked at Oliver, Comprehensive Systems and at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.
Maxine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was active in church circles. She loved to cook, sew, crochet, tend her large garden and she did a lot of canning. Maxine's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very precious to her.
Left to cherish her life are her husband of 69 years, Harvey Riden of Charles City; four children: Marcedes (Craig) Gallagher of Iowa Falls, Darlene Lacher of New Ulm, Minnesota, Keith Riden (Sandi Waite) of Ankeny and Jeanine (Dan) Yeager of Iowa City; "adopted" niece, Brenda (David) Babcock; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Steve) Murra, Melissa (Patrick) Reiter, Melanie Bushard, Bridgett (Steve) Corona, Dustin (Meghan) Riden, Hanna (Joey) Gugliuzza and Hillary (James) Vick; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Donna (Robert) Schmidt of Nora Springs; along with several other nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Bonnie Marah and Beverly Hardin; and her brother, Keith Marah.
