Trinity United Methodist ChurchRobert L. Davin, 93, of Charles City, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Riverside Assisted Living in Charles City.
Funeral services for Robert Davin will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.
Robert Lloyd Davin was born June 11, 1921, at Montevideo, Minn., the son of Armin and Mabel (Hendrickson) Davin. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. On July 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hazard. Robert was in the United States Army during World War II, serving in northern Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was a captain at the time of his discharge. For 42 years Robert was employed with the Sioux City Journal retiring as the National Advertising Manager. While working for the Sioux City Journal he headed up an organization called Mr. Goodfellow, which was sponsored by the Journal, that provided toys and fruit for needy families at Christmas time.
He was a member of the Shriners, Masons and served as president of the Boys Club. His interests, which he enjoyed with Barbara, included golfing and showing dogs and horses. Bob will be remembered for his keen wit, sense of humor and for making everyone welcome.
Living family members include his wife, Barbara of Charles City; three daughters, Cindy (Ron) Gergen of Charles City, Denise (Mark) Kuhn of Charles City and Becky Davin of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren, Christopher (Teresa) Gergen, Matthew (Connie) Gergen, Jennifer (Justyn) Ferris, Mason (Lori) Kuhn, Alex Kuhn and Tyler Davin-Moore; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles Davin.
