Richard ‘Dick’ A. Trainer

Richard “Dick” A. Trainer, 75, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Charles City, died Friday, November 28, 2014 when he lost his battle with cancer.

He was born in Charles City, Iowa, on September 9, 1939, the son of Charles “Chuck” and Irma (Bucknell) Trainer. He married Carol Guthart in 1959. He attended Charles City Schools. After his marriage to Carol, he joined the U.S. Navy.

He was employed as an auto repairman in Charles City as well as in Texas. He was also partners with the Floyd County Ambulance Service, C & D Taxi, and B & D Auto Body.

Richard had a passion for cars as well as racing them, along with mini sprints, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.

He had a smile for everyone and would always brighten a room.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelli Ann Trainer; father, Charles “Chuck” Trainer; and a brother, Ted Trainer.

He is survived by his mother, Irma Kay, of Manchester; four brothers: Don, Tom, John, and Joe; and two sisters: Valerie and Randi. He has five children: Connie (Larry) Rasmussen, Wendy (Jack) Trainer Rash, Mitzi Trainer, Pat (Jana) Trainer, and Rebecca Trainer. He has 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, as well as several good friends in Texas.

A celebration of his life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the V.F.W. in Charles City.
