Shirley was united in marriage to Earl Herman at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City on February 6, 1943. This union was blessed with four children. Shirley and her husband farmed in the Greene area for the next 42 years. In 1985, they retired from farming and moved into town.

Shirley and her family were faithful members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene.

Shirley found pleasure cooking, baking — especially her homemade dinner rolls — gardening, canning, quilting, caring for the chickens, hunting mushroom at the scout grounds and dancing. Shirley loved to travel and visited California, Florida, Canada, Las Vegas and South Dakota. Most of all, Shirley treasured the time spent with her family.

Living family members include her four children: Carol (Jim) Weaver, of Rockwell; Beverly (Gary) Boveia, of Waverly; Ron (Kathy) Herman, of Greene; Connie (Doug) Litterer, of Greene; grandchildren: Brenda Reed, Michele Casey, Tracy (Mike) Martzahn, Sara (Marty) Adelmund, Chad (Heidi) Herman, Andy (Nikki) Herman, Kristy (Jeremy) Houde, Tony (Dana Folkerts) Boveia, Joseph (Kristi) Boveia, Shawn (Molly) Litterer; 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, three sisters, one brother and a grandson, Derek Herman.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Shirley Herman Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 219, Greene, Iowa 50636.
