OBITUARY
MRS. MARY L. HAWN
Reckoning from April 20th, 1841, it would be almost four score and three years ago that Mary Lavina Beckwith was born near Watertown, New York. Here she was reared and grew to womanhood. She married Nathaniel R. Reed of Omar, New York, April 22, 1861 and lived in that community. Three children, Albert F., Dora M., and George N. Reed were born. Mr. Reed died in his 38th year, about 1871.
In 1880 Mrs. Reed was united in marriage with Lafayette Hawn, thus blending their home interests for themselves and their children. They came to Marble Rock continuing their residence here until Mr. Hawn’s death in 1892. Mr. Hawn’s younger children, Will and Lut Hawn of Grundy Center, and May, Mrs. B.J. Losee, of Marble Rock came with them.
Mrs. Hawn lived for a time at Rockford and also at Marble Rock, but made her home a greater portion of these years with her son George on their farm west of Marble Rock. These later years marked a gradual weakening of her strength until about six weeks ago she was stricken with paralysis which hastened the end in death on Monday morning, February 5th 1923 at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 25 days.
In 1882 her daughter, Dora M. Reed was called in death.
Her son Albert E. Reed, a brother, A.W. Beckwith and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Lehr yet live at Lafargeville, New York. There also survive seven grandchildren and on great grandchild.
Mrs. Hawn was a member of the M.E. Church of Marble Rock. Funeral services were in charge of Rev. L.W. Inman, and took place at the George N. Reed residence.
Appropriate music was well rendered as duets, by Mrs. Charles Moore and Mrs. Will Wilson, accompanied by Mrs. Will Kanter.
Interment in Marble Rock, West Cemetery.
