CORA E. LAWRENCE SUCCUMBS JUNE 7

Cora E. Lawrence passed away at 3:25 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, at the Friendly nursing home in Cedar Rapids after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held at hillside cemetery, Marble Rock, at 1:30 p.m., Thursday conducted by Doctor M.H. Williams of Cedar Rapids. Ladies of the Study club of which Mrs. Lawrence was a member attended in a body. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Russell Smith and Mrs. Clarence Barr. Casket bearers were Russell Smith, Ralph Wilson, Woodrow Melugin, Fred Smith, Walter Bohl and Theo. Messerschmidt.

Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the family of four daughters and two sons born to A.J. and Christina Hawks Asper, early pioneers of Aureola. Later the family moved across the river to Marble Rock and here Mrs. Lawrence attended school.

In early young womanhood Mrs. Lawrence began her life's work of teaching school, being employed in rural communities and also at Floyd and Marble Rock. Later she taught in Philipsburg and Logan, Kansas, at which place she met Guy D. Lawrence, who afterward became her husband.

Due to the nature of Mr. Lawrence's work as railroad engineer they lived at various points, including Cedar Rapids, St. Paul, Marble Rock and Chicago. Upon the death of her husband in 1906 Mrs. Lawrence returned to Marble Rock where she has since made her home.

She became a member of the Christian church and for many years was an efficient teacher in Sunday school.

Mrs. Lawrence was outstanding in her high ideals of right living and stood unflinchingly for what she believed was right. These principles she faithfully endeavored to inoculate in her scores of pupils throughout the years. That they appreciated her genuine worth was shown by the very many letters and cards received from them during her illness. Other marked characteristics were her great love of nature and fondness of children. Her life is her most fitting memorial.

Left to mourn her passing are two sisters, Mrs. Nora Hutchess, Chicago, Mrs. Blanche Hawkins, Hollywood, California, three nieces, Mrs. E.M. Victorine, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Jennie Van Bentheusen, Chicago and Mrs. Glen Dickey, North Hollywood, California and other relatives.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. E.M. Victorine, Mr. and Mrs. William Victorine, Mr. and Mrs. Winston Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Snyder, Mrs. Meta Porter and Mrs. Fannie Jiruska, all of Cedar Rapids.

Also Mrs. and Mrs. Thomas Burchers and Dr. and Mrs. M. E. Williams.
