Mrs. W. Ward Smith, of Cuba, Missouri, died at her home on Monday. The remains were brought to this place for burial.

The funeral was held at M.E. Church yesterday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of old friends. The deceased will be better remembered as Mrs. Carrie Hightshoe.

Mrs. C. E. Hightshoe Smith, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Williams, was born in Jamestown, Grant county, Wisconsin, April 2nd, 1841 and died in Cuba, Mo., April 9th, 1906 aged 65 years and 7 days. She was married July 29th, 1862, to Rev. James Hightshoe, a prominent member of the West Wisconsin Conference, who after many years of illness died of paralysis of the brain in Marble Rock, January 26, 1886. To them was born one son, Lee Bates Hightshoe, who with wife and two little girls live in Cuba, Mo.

April 8th, 1892, Mrs. Hightshoe was united in marriage to Rev. W. Ward Smith of the Upper Iowa Conference, living twelve years in Waverly, Iowa, and the last two in Cuba, Mo. In early life she sought her Savior and to the end of her earthly journey was in every relation of life, as a daughter, sister, widow and mother a pattern of devotion. Her constant aim was in all things to adorn her Christian profession by exemplary life, earnest work and cheerful presentation of the Gospel of Christ. she was greatly beloved by old and young, professing Christians and others. Many we believe will arise to call her blessed. The remains of the deceased were brought to this place for interment beside her departed husband on Wednesday of last week. In this town and vicinity the deceased had many warm friends who deeply mourn her departure.

Those in attendance from abroad were Rev. W. Ward Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lee B. Hightshoe, of Cuba, Mo., Mrs. Nellie Barber, of Winterset, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Battery, Mr. and Mrs. Wright of Cedar Rapids, Mr. Richie and daughter, Miss Myrtle, of Waverly, Mr. and Mrs. Williams, of Cedar Falls, Mr. L.H. Fellwock and family, of Rockford, Rev. Cole of Waverly, who participated in the funeral service.
