CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Max Lyman Kellogg, 86, of Charles City died on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Online condolences can be left at www.fullertonfh.com.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. with a one-hour prior visitation on Saturday, August 9th, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate.

Max Kellogg was one of five children born to the union of John Thomas and Inez Kellogg in Charles City, Iowa. He worked at Star Ice Cream Company while in high school and graduated in 1949.

Three short years later he joined his high school sweetheart Gladys in holy matrimony. To this union two children were born: Dianne (Loren) and Dennis (Kit). After high school Max worked at the Oliver/White Farm Plant and went on to manage a Standard Service Station for a short time before going to work in the trucking industry from 1953 until his retirement in 1989.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, taking many trips with his family all over the country. He sought to share his love of the outdoors by becoming active in Boy Scouts serving as an assistant and then Head Scout Master of a Troop. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

After he retired, he and his wife spent eight weeks camping in Alaska. He cherished the many years spent in Montana where they would visit their son and daughter-in-law. He had a very special relationship with their daughter and always looked forward to her visits, spending many holidays with her, his son-in-law, and grandchildren. The times they spent together were a great comfort to him during his many years but even more so as his health began to deteriorate.

Those left to mourn his death are Gladys, his spouse of sixty-five years; his son Dennis (Kit) of Big Fork, Montana; his daughter Dianne (Loren) of Cresco, Iowa; and his grandchildren Ryan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Nikki of Willmar, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother and sister in infancy, as well as four brothers: Wendell, Kenneth, Allen (Port), and Lynn.
