MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Funeral services for Christine Balkenende, 94, of Marble Rock will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville (rural Marble Rock) with the Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Roseville.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Roseville School with a Scriptural Wake at 6 p.m.

Christine Weiss was born May 24, 1919, a daughter of Herman F. and Clara C. (Ramker) Weiss, and died May 14, 2014, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

She received her education in the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene, graduating in 1937.

Christine was united in marriage to William Balkenende on Oct. 27, 1939, at St. Raphael Rectory in Dubuque. This union was blessed with 10 children.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville, the St. Rita Rosary Society and the Hi Neighbor Club in Marble Rock.

Christine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved and cared for her family all her life.

Living family members include: four daughters: Jane Dutcher, Lehigh; Judy Balkenende, Northwood; Nancy (Raymond) Guthart, Craigsville, Ind.; Sandra (Jim) Sanford, Mesa, Arizona; five sons: Jim (Nadine) Balkenende, Charles City; Bob (Betty) Balkenende, Tracy City, Tenn.; Jack (Jane) Balkenende, Mason City; Tom (Rhonda) Balkenende, Mason City; Don (Annette) Balkenende, St. Louis Park, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Thomason, Greene.

Christine was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1998; one son, Richard in 1962; one grandson, Michael in 1972; one son-in-law, Jerry Dutcher; and five brothers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Retz Funeral Home, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock.
