Dorothy Hayungs 1914-2005 (Marble Rock)

HOLLAND - Dorothy R. Hayungs, 91, of Holland, died Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Westbrook Acres, Gladbrook.

She was born April 10, 1914, in Marble Rock, daughter of Joseph and Emma Niklas Nixt. On December 28, 1935, she married Karl Hayungs in Webster City. He died August 8, 1966.

Mrs. Hayungs graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1932. In 1954 she and her husband purchased Karls Cafe, Holland, which she continued to run until her retirement.

Survivors include four daughters: C. Marie (Donald) Ennenga of Holland, Francys (Bernard) Harms of Wellsburg, Carol (Gary) Smith of Lincoln and Karla Hayungs of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Maxine Hayungs of Holland; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and a sister, Helen Welch of Marble Rock.

Preceded in death by two sons, Earl and Frank; two grandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Frank Nixt and an infant; and two sisters, Marian Smith and Virginia Kolbet.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Grundy Center. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, with family present 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established.
