Billie "Bill" Godderz, 85, of Charles City, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

There will be private graveside services.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Billie Eugene Godderz was born May 3, 1928, at Iowa City, the son of Lorenz and Viola Putney Godderz. He attended Charles City High School. Bill proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. On September 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margaret Mohring. They later divorced. While employed at Salsbury Laboratories he also owned and operated Bill's Truck Stop and later Charles City Steel and Welding. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Billie's interests included riding motorcycles, working on cars and fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada.

Living family members include two children, Duane (Sandra) Godderz of Rudd, and Pat Kruger of Nashua; seven grandchildren, Ryan Godderz, Evan (LeAnn) Godderz, Kendra Godderz, Jessie Godderz, Harley (Jessica Byrne) Godderz, Kelsey (Justin) Ahrens and Kraig (Aimee) Kruger; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Godderz; son-in-law, Kerry Kruger; granddaughter, Karmen Kruger and sister, Ardith Godderz.
