Jean Marie Dunbar was born on November 2, 1944, to Martin and Lola (Burgess) Boomgarden in Mason City. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1963.

Jean was united to Mike Dunbar in January 1965.

Together they raised three children. For several years Jean stayed at home to raise their children.

After their children were old enough Jean started working at the Nora Springs Meat Locker. She worked there for nearly 14 years before starting her job with Hy-Vee East in Mason City, and later to the Nora Springs Care Center.

Jean was an avid fan of Garfield the cat and collected things associated with him. She also enjoyed collecting Christmas things and going to garage sales.

Jean loved cake, and would have to have one during every holiday. Jean enjoyed computer games, puzzle books, and eating out and traveling with her friends, but most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter.

She also enjoyed her cats and her dogs.

Jean's legacy will continue after passing since she selflessly gave to the Iowa Donor Network.

Jean is survived by her children: Steve (Donna) Dunbar, Nora Springs, Paul Dunbar, Nora Springs, Nancy Dunbar, Nora Springs; a grandchild, Kelli Dunbar; a brother, Martin (Joanne) Boomgarden, Steamboat Springs, Colorado; a sister, Ruth Keller, Nampa, Idaho; sisters-in-law: Dixie (Bud) Abben, Little Cedar, Iowa; Ann (Dan) Bahnsen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Martha (Ray) Zuke, Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Dunbar; parents, Martin and Lola Boomgarden; sister, Sally Craig and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Holcolmb.
