NEW HAMPTON, IOWA - Services for Melvin R. Schmidt, 66, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of New Hampton, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens Charles City.
Melvin died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a lengthy illness.
He farmed in New Hampton; after retiring, he moved to Cedar Rapids and worked with Turner Microphone.
Survivors include his wife, Judith; his father, Otto of Charles City; two daughters, Sharyl Kopecky of Marion and Marilyn Lampe of Waverly; two sisters, Glendora Oudekerk and Lucille Roth, both of Charles City; six brothers, Lawrence and Otto Jr., both of Waterloo Clarence and Willis, both of Charles City, Raymond of Chico, Calif., and Harlan of Brainerd, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
