NEW HAMPTON, IOWA — Melbert A. "Swede" Holzer, 77, of New Hampton, died at home Friday, April 15.

He was born July 10, 1927, in Charles City, son of Edward and Katherine Rennier Holzer. He married Shirley Zubrod June 17, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City.

Mr. Holzer attended country schools in Floyd County. He worked for the State Highway Commission, farmed south of New Hampton and then worked part-time for the Blue Line Oil Co. for many years.

Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Steven (Susan) of Springfield, Illinois, and James of Naperville, Illinois; two daughters, Karla (Jim) Parks of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Karen (Stephen) McKibbin of Pompano Beach, Florida; five grandchildren; and a sister, Bernetta "Toddy" (Vincent) Zeien of Ionia.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Cletus, Gilbert, Eugene, Francis and Kenneth in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Parish, St. Marys Center, New Hampton, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary, 7 p.m. Scripture service and 7:30 p.m. video memorial tribute. Visitation will continue from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
