CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Jack Christensen, 82, of Charles City, died Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church, Charles City, with Pastor Forrest Cornelius officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and at the church Wednesday an hour prior to the service.

Jack Christensen, 82, of Charles City, died Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Jack Christensen was born October 4, 1931, at Cedar Falls, the son of Harold and Ruth (Wedemeyer) Christensen. He graduated from Charles City High School and attended Upper Iowa University. While he was in high school he was known for his outstanding pitching ability. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. In 1955 he married Marilyn Slinger and they later divorced. Jack married Judith Jorgensen in July of 1974. Over the years Jack worked for Thermogas and Northern Vending Company. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 51 years, Moose Lodge, V.F.W. and American Legion. Jack was an avid golfer and attended many golf tournaments with Judy. His other interests included woodworking, bowling and dancing.

Living family members include his wife, Judy Christensen of Charles City; four children, Kelly (Jan) Christensen of Charles City, Kim Christensen and fiance Joe Giordano of Sugar Grove, Ill., Deborah (Mark) Shannon of Charles City and Gary Kay, Jr. of Charles City; four grandchildren, Tara Winterink, Shane Stillions, Jesse (Tara) Rawley and Jon Rawley; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Christensen; and grandson, Shannon Stillions.
