Dorothy Mae (Springer) Mohring was born October 22, 1931, the daughter of Amos and Helen (Marovets) Springer. She was raised on the family farm between Nashua and Bassett, attending school in Nashua. After she graduated from Nashua High School, Dorothy went to the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools for two years.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Henry Mohring on April 22, 1954 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The couple farmed their entire lives near Ionia. Dorothy was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Talent Auction, missions fundraising and helping serve for funerals. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters. Dorothy's interests included sewing, gardening, annual fishing trips with Henry, traveling throughout the country with Henry, camping and being involved in the Waucoma Craft Show for several years. Dorothy's family will always remember her baking, especially her delicious pecan and fruit pies.
Dorothy was a very giving person who gave all she could until the very end. She always wanted to know, "How are you?"
