CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Gloria Chambers, 85, of Charles City, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Pastor Ruth Yeaton will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Gloria Chambers, 85, of Charles City, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Gloria Ravona Rice Chambers was born November 3, 1928, at Clarksville, the daughter of Luther and Leona (Sieling) Rice. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1947.

On June 13, 1948, she was united in marriage to Von Chambers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gloria had worked in food service at Jefferson School and as a nurse aide at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Other memberships included the Senior Citizens Center of Charles City and Heritage Club.

She enjoyed playing 500, canning and finding bargains. Family was always important to Gloria and she looked forward to sharing life's experiences with them.

Living family members include two daughters, Becky (Pete) Johnston of Ionia and Vicky (David) Rich of Algona; eight grandchildren, Pat Johnston, Jason Johnston, Jody Mulligan, Lisa Kettwig, Matt Chambers, Kelly Evans, Laura Hoover and Eric Rich; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey (Wilma Richards) Rice of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Von on October 26, 2013; son, David Chambers; brother, Don Rice; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rice; and daughter-in-law, Diane Chambers.
