BRAINERD, FLORIDA - Roberta F. Hild, 89, of Brainerd, died Thursday morning, February 9, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. A Memorial Mass was held Saturday, February 11, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village Chapel in Brainerd. Interment will be at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida.

Roberta was born on March 7, 1916, in Independence, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Horan) Fiester. She grew up in Brandon, and graduated from Mt. Mercy Junior College in Cedar Rapids, and then attended the University of Iowa. While at the university she met and later married John J. Hild at Woodland, Illinois, on February 12, 1937. To this union, two children, John and Beverly, were born.

After the war in 1946, they settled in Charles City, where she was active in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. In 1980, they retired and moved to Florida, where she enjoyed playing golf with friends. She also enjoyed antiquing, collecting coins, and stamps, playing cribbage and fishing. She was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye fan. In March of 2002, she moved to the Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. While in Brainerd, she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, William and Kathryn; and her husband, John on March 1, 1990. Roberta is mourned in passing by her children, John (Shirley) Hild of Pequot Lakes, and Beverly (Richard) Slansky of Del Mar, Calif.; four grandchildren, Danielle Hecker, John Hild, Michael Hild and Katherine Lynne; and nine great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
