IS KILLED BY A FALL

Has Accident at Nashua

NASHUA, IOWA - James Dutton, of the contracting firm, of Dutton & Brlggs, of Charles City, was almost instantly killed by falling from the roof while shingling on E. J. Prudhon's new barn, about three miles south of town, yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened about three o'clock, while Mr. Dutton and several other carpenters were engaged in shingling the large structure. Just how it occurred can only be surmised, but it is supposed that he stepped over a two-by-four nailed to the roof for a support to the workmen and fell over backwards to the ground, a distance of about twenty-five feet, striking head first.

He was at once picked up and carried into the house and a man dispatched, post haste for Dr. Goodale, who went immediately to the scene, but the unfortunate man was dead when he arrived. An examination showed that his neck was broken by the fall and his right side badly bruised. Some of the workmen saw him just as he went over the edge of the roof. He only gasped once or twice after he was picked up.

Mr. Dutton was a man well along in life, being about 73 years old, and quite well fixed financially.

He leaves one married daughter.

The body was removed to his home in Charles City last night.
