Morris, Julia A

Died

Morris - On Sunday, October 11, 1896, at the hospital for the insane at Independence, Iowa, Mrs. Julia A., wife of George P. Morris, aged 50 years, 8 months and 16 days.

Death at all times and under all circumstances leaves sad hearts and broken home circles in its wake, but when the silent reaper from whose deadly sickle none of animated nature can escape, claimed Mrs. Julia A. Morris, and the wife and mother who but a few short weeks before had been beautiful in life, gentle in manners and disposition, amiable in heart, pure in thought and feeling, passed into the shadow, the shock excited general sorrow, then came the better and calmer view, "Gods way is best." for now.

About two weeks ago Mrs. Morris was taken to the hospital at Independence for care and treatment, hoping she might recover from what seemed to be a temporary aberration of mind; but it was not to be. The immediate cause of her death was the bursting of a blood vessel at the base of the brain.

Mrs. Morris was born in Cleveland, Ohio, January 25, 1846, the daughter of Lyman and Elmira Ely. She was married to George P. Morris in Sparta, Wisconsin, July 9, 1866, and in 1868 they came to this place which has been their home ever since. She was the mother of seven children, five daughters and two sons: Bessie R., the wife of George Mason, of Forest City, Daisy M., M. Louisa, Emma M., George R., Julia A., deceased, and Eugene.

When the news of her death was received Mr. Morris went to Independence, and on Tuesday her remains were brought here for interment. A large number of friends met at the depot and accompanied the funeral cortege to Riverside, where brief services were held, conducted by Rev. C. C. Otis.

Mrs. Morris was a woman universally esteemed by all who came within the circle of her acquaintance. She was a loving, patient mother, a devoted wife and a kind neighbor. In all the year of her residence here there has been but one comment upon her life and that it was of unusual regard and esteem. She was a member of the Church of Christian (Scientist) and gave much of her time to the study of the scriptures.

Mr. Morris and his family, each and every one of them, have the sympathy of the entire community in their severe affliction.
