Patten, Mary Anna (Whittier)

Mary Anna Patten was the daughter of Henry C. and Mary Ann Whittier. She was born in Brighton, Maine February 3, 1942. In July, 1846, she removed with her parents to Green Lake County, Wisconsin, where she was married December 28, 1963 to Charles Grandison Patten.

Until November 1864, they lived for the most part in Madison, Wisconsin, when they came to Charles City where they have since resided.

Mrs. Patten was the mother of six children. One daughter, Ethel went before her to the better land. Those living are, Mrs. E. M. Sherman, of this city, Wendell Whittler, Althea, Harry Grandison, and Ernest Chandler. Two sisters, Mrs. L. T. Conger, of Pasadena, California and Miss E. J. Whittier, of Altruria, California, and a brother. A. A. Whittier, of Harriman, Tennessee are all that remain of her father's family.

Mrs. Patten died at her home Saturday night, October 12, 1895, from a shock super induced by fatty degeneration of the heart. She was taken sick Friday at midnight. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
