Alvin Vance, 92, of Charles City, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Alvin Vance will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church. Pastor Forrest Cornelius will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Alvin Richard Vance was born January 30, 1921, at Floyd, the son of Clifford and Ethel (Hennick) Vance. He graduated from Floyd High School in 1938. Alvin served in the United States Navy during World War II. On August 9, 1964, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Wheat. They lived in the Charles City area all of their lives. Alvin was proprietor of Bee Line Body Shop for many years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and Heritage Club. His interests included gardening, golfing, going to sporting events especially wrestling, and taking care of his yard.

Living family members include two children, Vickie (Chris) Sehy of Bozeman, Mont., and Eugene Huffman of Fulton, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Nick (Kim) Huffman, Kayla Huffman and Hawk Sehy; a brother, Dale Vance of Floyd; a sister, Barbara (Jerry) Sudol of Nashua; and a sister-in-law, Jean Vance of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy on Aug. 22, 2010; two brothers, Clair and Wayne Vance; and a sister, Marjorie Stiles.
