Cyrus Berk was born on August 31, 1938, to Frank and Margret (Hain) Berk in Rockford. He attended country school in Rockford through eighth grade. On October 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Darlene Arndt in Mason City. To this union five children were born. Cyrus spent his life on a four-generation farm. He loved the land and he loved farming. His life was about working to provide for his family.
He was a hard worker, and worked several jobs outside of farming. Cyrus worked at the Sugar Beet Plant in Mason City; he worked as a mechanic; and drove semi truck delivering farm equipment. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed spending time with his faithful dog, Susie. Together they rode the tractor and Susie always jumped in the front seat of the van. Cyrus was a talkative and friendly person. He would chat with the neighbors about the weather and farm sales.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Sandra (Ronald) Goranson of Mason City, Sherry Berk of Hampton, Iowa, Susan (Bryan) Dalton of Martinsville, Ohio, and Mike Berk of Mason City; son-in-law, Rory Tegtmeier of Otley, Iowa; and grandchildren, Rory Tegtmeier II, Zachery Tegtmeier, Kari Goranson, and Seth Goranson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margret and daughter, Shelia Tegtmeier.
