William E. Grant

INDEPENDENCE, IOWA - William E. Grant, 85, of Independence, Iowa died Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

William was born on May 28, 1928, in Marshalltown, the son of James R. and Mary M. (Coen) Grant. He attended the Marshalltown Schools and served in the US Army. Following his discharge he moved to Fairmont, Minn. and became employed as a heavy equipment operator with the city of Fairmont for 37 years prior to his retirement. William moved to Independence, Iowa in 2011.

He is survived by two children; Mike Grant, Independence, and Patty (Ron) Kent, Waterloo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Freida Willhite, Davenport, Mary Lou Long of Virginia; and a brother; John Grant, Charles City, and a very special friend Karen Phieman, Fairmont, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; LeRoy Grant, Paul Grant, and a sister; Sue Grant.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, Minn., with inurnment in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
