Funeral services for LeRoy Vance will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

FLOYD, IOWA — LeRoy Vance, 62, of Floyd, Iowa, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, of a heart attack.

Funeral services for LeRoy Vance will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

LeRoy Patrick Vance was born February 26, 1951, in Charles City, the son of Dale and Maxine (Mallery) Vance. LeRoy attended school in both Floyd and Charles City, graduating from Charles City High in 1969. He received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business from Iowa State in 1976.

On March 19, 1977, he was united in marriage to Jean Kaspar in Omaha, Neb. The couple made their home on the family farm near Floyd where they raised their two daughters, Danielle and Jane. LeRoy worked briefly in farm services in Alden and Charles City before returning to Floyd to work alongside his father and “play farmer” for more than 25 years. Recently, LeRoy retired from farming and began growing grapes and making wine.

LeRoy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Iowa Wine Growers Association. Over the years he also served on the boards of the Floyd County Farm Bureau, Floyd Dollars for Scholars and the Floyd County Quality Pork Producers. LeRoy was a friendly, loving man who spent much of his time helping his family and neighbors. LeRoy enjoyed history, listening to music, fishing and vacationing in Minnesota with his family, and traveling to visit his daughters as they moved around the country.

Living family members include his wife of 36 years, Jean Vance of Floyd; his daughters, Danielle Vance (Patrick McMullen) of Durham, N.C. and Jane Vance (Trevor Diehl) of Austin, Tex.; father, Dale Vance of Charles City; six siblings: Elaine (Dennis) Harvey of Bel Aire, Kan., Carolyn (Ron) Jensen of Cedar Falls, Jerry (Anna) Vance of Cedar Falls, Susan (George) Nixt of Clarksville, Sandy Vance of Charles City and Kris Harris of Springfield, Va.; father-in-law, William Kaspar of Papillion, Neb.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother, Maxine Vance; and mother-in-law, Clare Kaspar.

Memorials will be donated to a scholarship fund in LeRoy’s name.
