Funeral services for Doris Arlene Edwards, 90, of Greene will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, with Pastor Jennifer Ehlers officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday one hour before services.Doris Arlene Taylor Edwards was born on July 30, 1922, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Marie (Tack) Taylor and died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.
She received her education in the public schools graduating from Marble Rock High School. She attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
Doris then taught country school in Floyd County.On December 3, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Dean Ellis Edwards in her parent’s home in Marble Rock. This union was blessed with three children, Sandra, Dennis and Steve. They farmed and raised their family in the Dougherty area where she was active in the EUB Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and served as a 4-H leader. They moved to Greene in 1970 and became active members of the First Presbyterian Church.
Doris loved the outdoors, flowers and nature, she was a wonderful cook and did not need a recipe. She devoted most of her life to caring for her family. Doris was an extraordinary person who loved to please people and brighten their days. Her greatest love, however, was her grandchildren. She loved to play with them bringing joy and laughter to their little lives.
Living Family members include her Husband, Dean of 69 years,children: Sandra (Dale) Hefner of Amarillo, TX, Dennis (Jolene) Edwards and Steve (Rose) Edwards both of Greene; seven grandchildren: Jason (Rachelle) Setzer of Orlando, FL, Danielle Duffel of Mesa, Arizona, Kristin (Shahram) Malek of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Julie (Jamie) Lubbert Canton, Missouri, Tony (Melissa) Edwards of Waterloo, Tami (Dan) Cline of Mason City, Traci (Nathan) Bartels of Greene; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Barb (Bob) Siemons and Ron (JoAnn) Taylor.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Valoris (Mary) Taylor.
