CHARLES CITY -- Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grossman's funeral home for Mrs. Ernestine Lefke [Lewke], 86, of Charles City, who died in the Riverview Nursing home at Greene Saturday night at 9 p.m. She had been at the nursing home since Feb. 24; suffered at cerebral hemorrhage Dec. 31; burial in the Rudd cemetery; born July 2, 1867, and had just celebrated her 86th birthday Thursday; born in Germany and married there and with her husband and one daughter, came to the United States in 1893 direct to Floyd County; was preceded in death by her husband and one son, in 1908, and one son was killed World War I in France; an infant son also preceded her in death, as did two brothers and three sisters; leaves two daughters, Mrs. O.H. Ehling, Floyd, and Mrs. S.J. Snyder, Charles City; another daughter, Mrs. Augusta Duenow, Osseo, Minn., and three brothers, Fred and Herman Handt, Belgrade, Minn., and Carl Handt, of Charles City; five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
