Donald R. "Don" Mougey

Donald R. "Don" Mougey, 68, passed from this life to the next at the University of Cincinnati hospital on June 10, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Don, as he was known by his many friends was born on August 1, 1944, in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, the son of the late Hubert Donald Mougey and Erma Lehman Mougey. He retired from his position as Purchasing Supervisor for North American Stainless in 2009. Before that he was Director of Logistics at Solvay Animal Health in Charles City and Manager of Purchasing in Madison, Wisconsin.

He was a graduate of the University of Dayton in engineering, Cardinal Stritch College of Business and Chaminade High School. Don grew up in Dayton, Ohio learning to love Ohio State football. He and his wife lived in Madison, Wis. where they adopted three children, made many cherished friendships before moving to Charles City where he also made many wonderful friendships before moving to Carrollton, Kentucky.

For the last 17 years, Don restored and cared for the historic home that he and his wife operated as the Highland House Bed and Breakfast. Don was a Roman Catholic by faith but believed deeply in the community of all people. He loved photography and gardening but was happiest caring for his many bonsai trees or helping as a member of various City of Carrollton committees and projects. He was a former president and then treasurer of the Main Street program, served as chairman of Design Review Board, and board member and treasurer of Carroll County Tourism. Whatever he did he brought a passion, energy and love of people that was his greatest gift.

Cherishing his memory and mourning their loss are his wife of 43 years, Ruth, daughter Brooke and sons Randy (Charles City) and Paul (Mason City); sisters Kathy Kropff (Dayton, Ohio) and Susan Dearth (Atlanta, Mich.); brothers Pete and Dan Mougey (Dayton, Ohio); sisters in-law Julie Mougey, Mary Ann Rericha (McKinney, Texas); brothers-in-law John Miller (Columbus, Ohio) and Tom Miller (Ghent, Ky.) and Don Dearth; nieces and nephews Kris and Andy Kropff, Caitlin, Rebekah and Courtney Mougey, Kristen and Jeff Hurst, Erin and Jeff VanDyke, Ann-Marie and Ben Todd and Tara and David Rericha, plus four grandchildren, eleven great-nieces and greatnephews and many cousins, especially Judy (Charlie) Wright and Joyce (Tom) Gauldin.

A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at his home, the Highland House Bed and Breakfast in Carrollton, Kentucky.

He chose to donate to a tissue bank whatever parts of his body that could be used to help others. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice would honor his wishes. These may be made in care of Tandy-Eckler-Riley funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, KY 41008 Arrangements have been entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Kentucky.
