WATERLOO, IOWA — George L. Mackamul, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at his home.

He was born December 21, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa, son of Nicholas and Mae (Bill) Mackamul. He married Peggy Jones on May 31, 1952 in Roswell, New Mexico.

He was employed at the shoe shop and theater in Charles City; Rath Packing in Waterloo; owned and operated a shoe and upholstery shop in Swea City; worked at IPS, and then was proprietor of Waverly Bowl Inn. He served as Mayor of Bassett, Iowa and was Vice President of Golden Acres Association.

Survived by: his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Lourie (Dan) Usher of Waverly, Vicky (Mark) Wellik of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Amie (Ty) Bridges of Columbus, Ohio; one son, John (Gena) of Waverly; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Mackamul of Highland, Calif.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Lester and Joe Mackamul; and two sisters, Anne Hume and Delores Swinton.

His body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Family directed memorials services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, where visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly.
