Harold E. Burke, the son of James and Jeannette Burke, died in Stratford, New Jersey, on January 6, 2013.

Harold Burke was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on March 23, 1923. The family will gather for a celebration of life memorial service on March 23, 2013, his 90th birthday.

Harold proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and proudly wore a Marine cap whenever going out. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and worked in banking and finance. The family home in Toms River, N.J., was damaged by Hurricane Sandy and he recently moved into Assisted Living in Voorhees, N.J.

Harold was a member of the Unitarian Church of South Jersey.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 68 years, Hazel Cox Burke; daughters Dianne (Chuck) Souder, Carol, (Charlie) Davis, and Linda (Michael) Naples; and sons David (Dixie) Burke and Jeffrey (NL) Burke. There are 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family appreciates all the support and concern expressed while he was hospitalized the past 12 days.

Biography:

Harold E. Burke, 89, died on January 6 , 2013 at the Kennedy Hospital in Stratford, NJ.

A long time resident of Cherry Hill, he retired from Midlantic Bank to his home in Toms River, NJ. A Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, he then graduated from the University of Virginia in 1948.

He was preceded in death by his parents James F. and Jeannetta Rogers Burke and his brother James R. Burke.

A loving and generous husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hazel M. Cox Burke; five children: Dianne J. Souder (Charles), Carol H. Davis (Charles), Linda A. Naples (Michael), David H. Burke (Dixie), Jeffrey J. Burke (Lynn); ten grandchildren: Stacy C, Bolin (Ben), Linda M. Davis (Todd), Chad B, Souder (Tricia), Charles J. Davis III (Stacy), Caryn D. Joseph (Peter), Danielle H. Burke, Brandon J.Burke (Jennifer), Ryan J. Burke (Amy), Kaitlin B. Smith (Brian), and Justin M. Burke; and 14 great-grandchildren: Chandra L. Bolin, Lydia A. Bolin, Sophia G. Bolin, Reed C. Davis, Michaela M. Davis, Emily J. Davis, Ethan J. Davis, Benjamin C. Davis, Hazel J. Burke, Cayden E. Burke, Lilian M. Souder, Charles L. Souder, Pierce A. Joseph, and Owen R. Smith.

A memorial service will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church in Cherry Hill, NJ on March 23, 2013 on what would have been his 90th birthday. Interment will be a private family service in New York State.
