John Patten – August 10, 1825 – July 16, 1895

DEATH OF JOHN PATTEN

The Rudd Rustler contains the following notice of the sudden death of our old friend, John Patten, brief mention of which we gave last week.

He died July 16, 1895 of heart failure, John Patten, age 72 years, 11 months and 6 days.

Deceased was born in Humboldt County, Ohio; married to Miss Mary Cook in 1848; moved to Fayette County in 1853, coming to Rudd in 1869, where he has since resided. His wife and five children survive him. Two sons, C. A. and C. M. Patten, live here; another son, L. S. resides in Montana; two daughters; Mrs. F. Markham of Mason City; and Mrs. Alice M Strong, of Ulster.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Rev. Searles officiating. Thus the old settlers are fading from our sight, but not from our memory, for we shall miss the familiar form and cheerful presence.

The Charles City Intelligence, Charles city, Iowa, July 23, 1895

**note: name originally Patton in this article, edited to the correct spelling of Patten
