Norman “Jim” Watson

Norman “Jim” Watson, 88, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. Per Norman’s request, no services are being planned at this time.

Norman Clinton Watson was born July 17, 1924, in Nashua, the son of Everett and Iris (Orsborn) Watson. He graduated from Nashua High School. In April 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in World War II, and was honorably discharged in January 1946. Norman was a Medical Aidman serving in the Southern Philippines with honors including: Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Arrowhead, PurpleHeart, Bronze Star Medal, and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.

On October 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Shultz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, making Charles City their home.

After his military service he worked for 36 years at White Farm Equipment Company in Charles City, retiring in 1981. Norman was a member of the VFW, Elks Club, Wildwood Golf Course and Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. His passionate love for golf allowed him to spend almost every day on the course with his golf buddies. He also enjoyed fishing, spending summers at Holiday Lake, watching Iowa Hawkeye sports, reading, going to various car races and in his early years riding motorcycles. Most of all, Norman enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Left to celebrate Norman’s life include his wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Dot” Watson of Charles City; two sons, Doug and family from North Carolina, and Dave (Jacquie) of Charles City; three grandchildren: Gretchen (Mark) Mathison of Durham, N.C., Nathan (Wendy) Watson of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Jodi Watson (Mike Mc-Grath) of Chicago, Ill; five great-grandchildren, Miller, Gray, and Everett Mathison, Porter Watson, and Matt Rhodes; four siblings, Clinton Watson, Edna Schanfeld, Irma Joerger, and Georgia Potter.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Nicholas Watson.
