ROCKFORD, IOWA — Kenneth “Pat” Engels, 54, of Rockford, died Monday, March 18, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Pat Engels will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. Monsignor Walter Brunkan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Rockford.

Friends may call at Holy Name Catholic Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday an hour prior to the Mass.

Kenneth Patrick Engels was born November 19, 1958, in Charles City, the son of John and Maxine (Kramer) Engels. Pat graduated from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School in 1978. On November 25, 1978, he married Pam Montgomery. They later divorced.

Over the years Pat drove semi, worked at Hormel, Oliver/White Farm Equipment Co., and did seasonal farm work until he found his niche in the construction business, owning and operating Pat Engels Construction.

Pat was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers, playing cards, riding around with his dog and country living. However, Pat enjoyed most the time he spent with his family, from picking on his grandchildren to visiting with his mother. Pat will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Living family members include his six children: Jessica (Travis) Rasing of Rockford, Amanda Engels of Rockford, Virginia Engels of Marble Rock, Brenda (Kota) Engels of Rockford, Christopher (Madison) Engels of Marble Rock and Maria (Nick) Engels of Rudd; 10 grandchildren: Skylar, Cameron, Ramsey, Haylie, Kylee, Christian, Raven, Dawson, Ashton and Aubrey; his mother, Maxine Engels of Rockford; four brothers: Gerald Engels of Fayette, Tom (Corky) Engels of Rockford, Bob (Deb) Engels of Rockford and Jim Engels of Rockford; five sisters: Connie (Robert) Weigmann of Marble Rock, Mary (Russ) Litterer of Rockford, Annette (Jack) Schwantes of Rockford, Patty Engels of Rockford and Donna (Dean) Jones of Rockford; a sister-in-law, Deb Engels of Nora Springs; and his longtime girlfriend, Vicki Paulus of Rockford.

Pat was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Engels; his father, John Engels; siblings Janet Engels and John Engels Jr.; a great-nephew, Derick Wharton; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

The accident took place at 6:15 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Glass Avenue.

The driver was southbound on Glass Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and entered the west ditch, rolling the vehicle.

He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Floyd County Sheriff Rick Lynch said there was zero visibility at the time of the accident due to blowing snow, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

AMR Ambulance Service, the Floyd County Medical Examiner and Scott’s Wrecker Service assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.

The name of the 54-year-old man is being withheld until all family members are notified, according to Floyd County Sheriff Rick Lynch.

The accident took place at 6:15 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Glass Avenue near Rudd.

The driver was southbound on Glass Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and entered the west ditch, rolling the vehicle.
