Glenn Stohr was born on May 20, 1923, in Velva, N.D. to William Stohr Sr. and Luella (McNamanar). He spent most of his life living in the Charles City area.

From 1941-1945, he served in the Army as an Infantry man. For his services and injury at the Battle of the Bulge, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Bronze Star medal.
