Glen Richard Brinkman was born on December 24th, 1925, in rural Dayton Township, Butler County, the son of Henry and Katheryn (Becker) Brinkman. He received his education at Dayton Township No. 6 and graduated from Greene High School in 1943. As a young man, he worked with his father and brothers on the Brinkman family farm.

On January 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Howe. He worked for a time at the Greene Cooperative Creamery Association. He started farming in Butler County southeast of Greene, and 3 years later he and Virginia purchased a farm south of Charles City, where they raised a family and called home for the rest of their lives.

Glen dedicated his life to his family and his profession of farming. One of his memories was farming with horses during the early years and he saw many changes in farming practices throughout his life. He was one of the first to use terrace farming to conserve soil. He was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Twisters Square Dance Club. He and Virginia enjoyed traveling in their motor home, wintering in Texas, square dancing and music. Family was always very important to Glen and he greatly enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include four children, Dennis (Janice) Brinkman of Greene, Doug (Susan) Brinkman of North Potomac, MD, Jeanette Brinkman of Charles City, and Jeanine Krueger of Floyd; four grandchildren, Ann (Brent) Carstensen, Josh (Bethany) Brinkman, Ryan (Kelly) Krueger and Kevin (Amy) Krueger; six great grandchildren, Morgan, Ethan, Shane, Jenna and Hanna Krueger, and Margerette (Meg) Brinkman; siblings, Robert (Shirley) Brinkman of Bradenton, Fla., James (Helen) Brinkman of Hillsboro, Ill., and Janet (Dennis) Matkins of Rapid City, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia on July 7, 2010; his stepmother Rosa; and his siblings Harold, Vern, Francis, Paul, Dale, Melvin, and Charles Brinkman; and Janice Chapman.

The family extends special thanks and gratitude to Bonnie Holtz and Sharon Clay for providing loving care to Glen to allow him to spend his final months on the family farm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Charles City, Gospel Lighthouse of Floyd and Hospice of North Iowa.
