Jerauld Joseph Kayle was born June 21, 1944, at Sioux City, the son of Vincent and Margaret (Schulz) Kayl. He graduated from Ponca High School, Ponca, Nebraska. He then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and South Dakota State University, where he received his Pharmacy Degree. Jerry moved to Charles City in 1970 and was employed at the Red Owl Pharmacy.

On July 21, 1979, he was united in marriage to Diane Clammer at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. In 1980 when the Red Owl general store closed, they purchased the pharmacy, named it Family Center Pharmacy, and moved it to the corner of Clark and Main in downtown Charles City. In the late 80s, they moved the store to the Cedar Mall. Then in 1995, they sold the store to Drug Town. Hy-Vee later purchased Drug Town, and Jerry continued working at the Hy-Vee pharmacy until his retirement.

Pharmacy was seen by Jerry as a calling in which he could care for people, and he went well beyond the "normal" to give that care. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also volunteered his time for many in the community, including the school system as a school board member and helper in the concession stand at sporting events. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Charles Theatre as well. What Jerry enjoyed most was spending time outdoors with others. His favorite activities included gardening, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He cherished spending time with his family and always looked forward to those special times with the grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Diane Kayle of Charles City; three children, Wes (Jodi) McMains of Owatonna, Minnesota, Kristen (Greg) Kellogg of Charles City and Ryan Kayle and Kacie Hoffman of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Jenna, Jacob and Ava McMains, Gabby, Mikaela, Gracelynn and Nathanael Kellogg; two sisters, Lynda (Mike) Steinhauer and Barbara Kayle both of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law, Susan Kayl of Los Angeles, CA; and mother-in-law, Wilma Clammer of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; sister, Rusty; and father-in-law, Thomas Clammer.
