Sanford Kenneth Fosholdt was born May 11, 1915 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa to Ha​rold Syversen Fosholdt​ and Anne Marie Nubson​, the oldest of their two children. Sanford was baptized on July 4, 1915 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors: Mr. & Mrs. Olaus Norby, Martha Norby, John Fosholdt. He was confirmed at RCLC on May 19, 1929. His younger brother was stillborn on May 23, 1924.

Sanford was married twice; first in 1939 to Avice McArthur; next to Wilma Parlin​gton Johnston on September 20, 1974. He had 4 children.

Sanford K Fosholdt died Aug​ust 14, 1998 at Vilkovo, Ukr​aine while on vacation. He was returned to the U.S. and buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine, Iowa.

Obituary as it appeared in the Osage Press News, August 26, 1998:
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 22, 1998, at Zion Lutheran Church, Muscatine, for Sanford Kenneth Fosholdt, age 83, of Muscatine, Iowa. Pastor Paul Ostrem and Pastor Karla Griffen of Zion Luth. Church and Pastor Robert Ahlstrom of Luth. Homes officiated. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa; or Vesterheim Genealogical Center, Decorah, Iowa. He died Friday, August 14, 1998, while on vacation in Vilkovo, Ukraine.

Sanford K. Fosholdt was born May 11, 1915, near Rudd to Harald and Marie Nubson Fosholdt. He graduated from college in 1938. His first marriage was to Avice McArthur in 1939, and later, he married Wilma Parlington Johnston on September 20. 1974.

He was raised on a farm in Mitchell county, Iowa and graduated from Osage High School. In 1938, he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State Univ. He joined the Young and Stanley Engineering firm and became a partner in 1950. He served in WW11 when he taught Navy recruits electrical engineering at ISU. After 43 years with Stanley Consultants, Inc., he retired as executive vice-pres. in 1981.

He served in the American Society of Mech. Engineers, Consulting Eng. Council of Ia. and the Consulting Engineers Council of the USA and was USA delegate to the International Fed. of Consulting Eng. He attributed many articles to professional publications. He also initiated the Muscatine Comm. School Foundation and assisted with scholarships. He was extremely interested in his family heritage and traveled extensively over the world.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Those that survive him include his wife, Wilma; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bill Clark of Tulare, Calif; Louise and John Jesson of Bettendorf; and Lucy and Rob Deyerberg of South Lake Tahoe, Ca. one son and wife: John and Laura Fosholdt of Littleton, Colorado; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
