WERE SATURDAYFuneral services for Mrs. Mathilda Bornstein, 81, were held Saturday afternoon, january 29, at the Champion funeral home with the Rev. T. Solem officiating. Burial was made in the Rudd cemetery, at Rudd, Iowa.
Mrs. Bornstein died Wednesday, January 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S.V. Roberts, in Osage after a week's illness.
Mathilda Augusta, daughter of Henry and Augusta Miller, was born in Schandonka, Germany, July 21, 1867. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in her native land. At the age of 16 she immigrated to America with two sisters. She went to Chicago, later to Minnesota, and finally to Charles City, Iowa.
She married Ferdinand Bornstein at Charles City on March 7, 1897. They operated a farm four miles east of Rudd until they retired from farming in 1922. They then moved to Charles City where they lived until Mr. Bornstein's death on March 1, 1940. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Bornstein has lived with her daughter in Osage.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Roberts, and a son, Arthur of Floyd; a foster son, Emil, and a foster daughter, Mrs. Arnold Nauman, both of LeRoy, Minnesota. Twenty-one grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also survive.
